    Review

    Overview

KTM has finally launched the RC 200 and RC 390 in India for INR 1.60 lakhs and INR 2.05 lakhs respectively. Both bikes have been priced very aggressively and they will sell in very good numbers!
KTM Sport motorcycle AG is a world renowned Austrian company that manufactures automobiles. Its headquarters are located in Mattighofen, Austria. Recently, KTM showcased three fabulous Supersport bikes, RC 390, RC 200 and RC 125 at 71st EICMA motorcycle show in Milan, Italy on November 6, 2013. These bikes are based on their naked Duke model counterparts with some slight differences. The frame is visually similar but is slightly changed and is a powder-coated tubular space frame made from steel tubes.
The other features that have seen changes are top speed, an increased steering head angle which leads to shorter trail and wheelbase and increased ground clearance which further leads to even sharper steering, new and aggressive riding position, new rear sub-frame, new headlights and fuel tank and a slightly increased weight. All three bikes will be manufactured at Chakan, near Pune in a plant of Bajaj Auto and will be sold in India and exported to the other markets as well. The KTM RC 200 is a full fared bike which clearly follows KTM's Ready to Race philosophy with outstanding style, top-range performance, efficient mileage and completely value for money stance.

    Design and Style

KTM RC 200 has brand new stylish and new twin headlights, clips on handlebars and switches, new steel fuel tank, comfortable two-part seat for perfect rider and pillion support with a high seat height of 820mm for a big-bike feeling, advanced design windshield, newly forged and eye-catching aluminum triple clamps, integrated pillion seat with the bodywork lines for extra comfort, compact underbelly three-chamber silencer helps in centralization of mass due to being close to the bike's overall center of gravity, sporty integrated blinkers into fairing-mounted rear view mirrors, a thin tail with a number plate holder and LED tail light and pushed back foot pegs for aggressive riding position.

    Instrument Panel

It also has a fully digital instrument cluster with LCD display which includes engaged gear, fuel gauge, service reminder information, an RPM alert for indicating the best moment to shift up the gears. It also comes fitted with a speedometer, odometer, dual trip meter, clock and a tachometer.

    Engine and Gearbox

KTM RC 200 has a 199.5cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled, spark-ignition engine which generates a maximum power of 24.65 BHP with an expected maximum torque of19.2 NM and is mated with a 6-speed claw-shifted transmission. It has a bore and stroke of 72mm and 49mm respectively, engine lubrication is done by forced oil lubrication with one rotor pump, mechanically operated clutch in oil bath and a contact-less, controlled and fully electronic ignition system with digital ignition timing adjustment.

    Brakes and Suspension

KTM RC 200 has 300mm diameter disc brakes with 4-piston radially mounted calipers at front and 230mm diameter disc brakes with single-piston floating calipers at rear. There is also dis-engage able Bosch 9MB two-channel ABS. Bajaj Pulsar 220F Review

The Fastest Indian

Overview of Bajaj Pulsar 220F

Adopting an aggressive stance in the crowded consumer motorcycle market, Bajaj introduced another surprise with the announcement of a brand new Pulsar model – the Pulsar 220F DTS-i. Billed as ‘the Fastest Indian’, it looks as though Bajaj are looking to capture drivers’ imaginations with high-spec technology and blistering performance. Let’s take a closer look at this exciting new offering from the tried-and-trusted manufacturer.

Bajaj Pulsar 220F Design and Style

The Pulsar 220F aims to live up to its bold and aggressive stance in terms of design. The all-black theme dominates its body, including swing-arms, suspension, wheels and engine. The original Pulsar 220 was Bajaj’s first bike to feature a front fairing and the bold styling of an athletic sports bike, and this new update maintains this edgy aesthetic. The brake calipers now feature a classy gold-plating finish. The Pulsar now features very stylish looking LED taillights. Its new split seat features a split grab rail for the pillion rider.

Instrument Console of Bajaj Pulsar 220F

In keeping with the other revamped models released in its new generation of bikes, Bajaj have upgraded the 220F’s instrument console. Its all-digital panel features clear, bright digital displays for its speedometer, neutral blinker, trip meter, tachometer, low battery measure and fuel gauge. The enlarged tachometer is the dominant instrument, positioned in the middle of the console, with a fully digital display to the right and the LEDs on the left.

Engine and Gearbox

  • 220cc, DTS-I engine
  • Maximum power of 20.8 Bhp at 8500 rpm
  • Maximum torque of 19.12 Nm at 7000 rpm
The Pulsar 220F is equipped with a meaty 220c, 4-stroke, oil-cooled DTSi engine. The engine offers a maximum power of 20.8 BHP at 8500 rpm, and a maximum torque of 19.12 NM at 7000 rpm. Its patented TRICS 3 technology and smart CDI system improve the bike’s ignition timing and provide a smoother delivery of power, as well as temperature-based ignition mapping, using the largest venturi carburettor yet seen on a bike for the Indian market.

The bike’s acceleration is generally very good, shooting from 0 to 60 kmph in a blistering 4.1 seconds, and 0 to 100 in 9.5 seconds – these are great numbers. The bike is fitted with Bajaj’s patented ExhausTEC (Torque Expansion Chamber) system, which gives the vehicle a higher rate of pickup at lower rpms, reducing the need to shift gears frequently to maintain acceleration. The smart tech also provides better engine torque at lower rpms, and the result is plenty of latent engine power, no matter what stage of riding you are at. The bike’s pull is effortless, regardless of the load conditions heaped upon it. Built to be one of Bajaj’s fastest bikes, it offers a top speed of 144 kmph.

Bajaj Pulsar 220F Mileage

Bajaj Pulsar 200F boasts plenty of smart technology that, according Bajaj, should guarantee improved fuel efficiency and reduced consumption. The bike delivers an average efficiency of 44 km/l, which is a respectable return for a bike in this class, although slightly lower than most budget buyers would like. The fuel tank has a capacity of 15 litres – 3.2 litres held in reserve, with 2.2 litres usable.

Comfort While Driving Bajaj Pulsar 220F

Bajaj Pulsar 220F is a comfortable ride for drivers of all types. The bike’s seat is surprisingly firm and well padded, making it more comfortable than its severe lines might first suggest. It features a largely upright seat that is suitable for city driving and a number of ergonomic features such as well-positioned footrests.

Safety Features

Worthy of mention are the Pulsar’s capable illumination systems, which help to improve the bike’s safety. It features one of the few projector headlamps on a bike for the Indian market. In addition, it comes fitted with exceptionally powerful twin high-wattage projector headlamp (55W; which give incisive, strong beams providing a broad lighting spread. The bike’s headlamp is powered by a 12V full direct current, so it ensures strong illumination at every speed.

Storage Space

In keeping with the other models in this class, the bike offers very little in terms of space for storage – this is a bike with a strong sports focus.

Bajaj Pulsar 220F Suspension

Bajaj Pulsar 220F’s suspension is recognizable – it’s the same that we’ve seen on other Bajaj models, but that just means that Bajaj have had time to refine it. The bike’s front sports 37mm telescopic front fork suspension with anti-friction bush. At the rear, it has a nitrox mono-shock absorber that is five-way adjustable. The suspension of Pulsar 220F is strong, but the level of vibration felt at higher speeds when moving over uneven surfaces is greater than you would wish.

Bajaj Pulsar 220F Brakes

Bajaj Pulsar 220F’s brakes are a well-refined feature. It is fitted with a 260 mm ventilated disc brake at the front, and a 230 mm ventilated disc brake at the rear – it’s one of the few bikes on the market to be fitted with front and rear disc brakes as standard.

Ride and Handling

The Pulsar 220F’s engine is one of its best features: powerful yet refined. At higher revs the bike does produce quite a lot of unpleasant noise. The bike’s lightweight chassis and aerodynamic form mean that it moves smoothly and handles well, with no overcompensation when leaning. The bike is equipped with numerous sensors that halt the engine instantly if the bike bends through more than 60 degrees, helping to prevent critical accidents.

Tyre Size

The bike comes equipped with the broader 120/80 x 17 inch tubeless rear tyre, soft compound tires, plus reinforced five-spoke alloy wheels that look really great and maintain strong road grip.

Shades Available in Bajaj Pulsar 220F

Bajaj Pulsar 220F is available in three shades:
  • Cocktail wine red
  • Plasma blue
  • Midnight Black
Bajaj India has introduced new speed line shades for Pulsar range comprising of Pulsar 150, Pulsar 180 and Pulsar 220. The new shades are blue with combination of black, red with combination of black and all-black shade. The new shades have given a fresh lease to life to the Pulsar models and have further enhanced the overall looks of the bikes.

Bajaj Pulsar 220F Variants

There is just one variant of the new Pulsar 220F.

Accessories

Some dealers will throw in accessories such as a petrol lock or side lamp buzzer free of charge, but most accessories, like additional seat covers, Teflon coating, and bike covers, will be an additional cost on top of the bike’s price tag.

Reasons to buy and Value for Money

A reasonably priced bike with plenty of smart on-board technology to give a truly modern ride, the Pulsar 220F is an enjoyable vehicle. If fuel efficiency is important, choose another model, as this bike eats fuel at great speed and gives little return. The bike itself, however, represents excellent value for money given the level of performance it offers.

Verdict

A clear and strong statement from Bajaj, the Pulsar 220F is nevertheless disappointing in some ways, particularly in terms of fuel efficiency, a factor that is important to many drivers. However, it’s a charming ride with plenty of character and much to commend it.

After having ruled the scooter segment for over a decade with the Activa and Dio pair and then having ventured into the mass market segment in India this year with the Dream Yuga, the big H is now aiming to bring bigger machines into India across the spectrum. While on the premium motorcycle side it has the new 500cc family waiting to be unleashed on the Indian market, at the lower end, Honda will be launching a premium scooter soon in India to cater to the the growing premium scooter brigade.

The new big premium scooter model will offer performance and elite features first time seen in the scooter class although the pricing will be a bit on the higher side. The scooter will be locally manufactured by Honda at its Indian operations to keep the costs under check.

modification

Modified bikes have been a craze for younger people from the very decade of the invention of this wonder machine. Unlike any other vehicle, bikes are being modified into different shapes and looks. There are certain reasons behind the tendency of bike modification. bikes most of the times, are meant for younger people who always prefer changes and are eager to look different. Another reason behind bike modification is bikes are comparatively cheaper to modify.
It is a fact that most of the modified bikes are imitations of super-bikes. Younger people like to grab the attraction from the society, riding super-bikes. But the price stretching into few lakhs, results many of the super bikes out of reach to the middle class men, and the only option left out is to modify a cheaper bike into a super bike. Also the influences from entertainment industry and motor sports tempt people to modify their bikes to resemble that of their heroes.
There are two types of modifications, performance or looks. You can also go for both at the same time. Performance modification could no way give guarantee that it will imitate, superior bikes while looks modifications may give you the perfect satisfaction of a super bike. There are several modification kits available for each and every part of your bike. You can either alter the shapes or replace body parts with new moulded ones. If you are creative enough, you can have your own design and there are certain companies who will execute your ideas on your bike.
The body works are mainly done by using fiberglass reinforced plastic. This material offers you the quality of parts, perfect finish and a glazing surface. A majority of modification kits include clip on handelbars stylish graphics and stickers, mag-alloy wheels, rear view mirrors, tuned exhaust silencer, specially designed seats etc... Also you can avail modified petrol tanks and mudguards.
It is always better to approach any experienced bike modifier than a local mechanic. Modification is not a change over from a cheaper bike to super bike, but it is just faking the physical appearance super bikes. Thus even though you are riding a bike that resembles a highly superior bike, always aware of the limitations of the basic model.

Performance modification can increase the efficiency of the bike, to a limited extent, while body modification decreases millage and performance.
The most common modifications include removing the saree guard, rear view mirrors, increasing the size of the rear tyre, changing the handle bar, using alloy wheels and changing shock absorbers etc... Some people even go for an entire body alteration while keeping the engine as it is. You can also work on the sound of the bike.
